CHRIS BENOIT RELEASED, WWF TALENT SHAKEUP

Updated: May 2, 2021

Hot on the heels of last week's No Way Out pay-per-view, the World Wrestling Federation are set to announce some major changes to their roster.

The shocking news of Chris Benoit's departure has already broken this morning. Last week on Raw, Benoit appeared to turn his back on his faction - The Radicalz - and go it alone. Insider sources report that the angle was designed to put Benoit into a feud with Eddie leading towards WrestleMania - however, the angle also works as an on-screen exit for the former WCW champ.

Though details are sketchy, from what we have learned so far - Benoit has been looking to take a break from wrestling due to nagging injuries. Apparently, Vince McMahon was trying very hard to keep Benoit on the active roster, but after a meeting at the last WWF house show, Benoit's notice was accepted.

As for other WWF talents - it seems that Ivory is dealing with her own nagging injuries. She is out for now, but it is unsure if the WWF Women's Championship will be vacated. Plans for her to defend against Chyna in a surprisingly well-built match at WrestleMania have undoubtedly been nixed.

The drama doesn't stop there for Right to Censor, as Bull Buchanan and The Goodfather have been moved to Ohio Valley Wrestling to work with developmental talent. Steven Richards and Val Venis will continue to tag team on television - suggesting somewhat of a push or 'facelift' for their gimmick.

It seems that a deal has been worked out between WWF and New Japan Pro-Wrestling as TAKA Michinoku, Funaki and Haku have been taken off of television and are in the process of leaving their contracts. Insiders report that the three men have expressed dissatisfaction with their gimmicks and booking in the WWF over the last couple of months. Surprisingly, WWF have agreed to give the competitors releases with no non-compete stipulations attached. Perhaps the WWF is looking to cut back on any unneccesary contracts and save some money? Interesting timing, considering the rumours of Fusient Media potentially backing out of World Championship Wrestling funding...
