INTERVIEW: What about Raven?
In a desperate attempt to impress Mr. McMahon, William Regal booked a title vs. title match this week on Raw is War. He pit the European Champion Test against the Hardcore Champion Big Show, with both championships on the line. However, by overlooking the 24/7 Hardcore title defense rule, Regal accidentally put both championships up for grabs in a free-for-all! Though a number of WWF superstars tried their luck, it would be Raven who seized the ultimate opportunity and became a double champion in one match, in one night. WWF.com spoke to Raven earlier today to discuss his newfound spotlight and how he feels going forward as a double champion:
WWF: Thank you for speaking to us today, Raven. How does it feel to hold both the Hardcore and the European Championships?
RAVEN: It feels great. I've shot up in everyone's estimations in just one night. An opportunity like this doesn't come around often, if at all. I had to take advantage of that opportunity.
WWF: It was William Regal's oversight that made your title wins possible. When did you realise that the 24/7 rule was actually in place?
RAVEN: A few of us kind of realised it at the same time. There was a moment when Test was heading out to the ring where I looked across the locker room. Me and some of the guys in there... no one said anything, but we all just kind of had this moment of realisation. We raced out towards the ring and caught Big Show and Test as they were fighting backstage.
WWF: You nailed Test with a DDT, smashing him headfirst into a wooden crate, while the other superstars around you focused on the Big Show. What was your strategy there?
RAVEN: Big Show is a big target, no doubt. But I realised that, with everyone focusing on him, they were overlooking Test - who was already roughed up and vulnerable at the time. So I dragged him out of the way, hit the Raven Effect and got my win. I just sensed an opportunity and took it.
WWF: Has Mr. McMahon said anything to you since your title wins? He didn't seem too pleased with the outcome of the match on Monday...
RAVEN: Mr. McMahon has never really had time for me before, I don't see that changing now. I walked past him at the arena with both titles and he just looked away, pretending I wasn't there. Oh well, I'm used to that kind of treatment.
WWF: What's next for Raven?
RAVEN: I can't say for sure. I have two titles now - and I'll take on all comers. I'm not backing down from any challenge. I've made myself famous. Quote the Raven... nevermore.
