TOMMY DREAMER: 'NO IDEA' WHAT FUTURE HOLDS

Updated: May 27, 2021

We spoke to Tommy Dreamer about the current state of ECW and his future in wrestling.

Tommy, what is happening with ECW right now? Is the promotion closed down for good?

I have absolutely no idea. When Paul Heyman turned up in the WWF, that was more of a shock to me than anyone. We were told that we would be back on TV in no time, that Guilty as Charged was a success and that the USA Network were looking to snap us up. But now he's on TNN, on Raw... I just don't know what to think right now.

Have you heard from Heyman since his debut on WWF television? Have you heard from the WWF themselves?

No and no. I've tried calling Heyman but he's ignoring me. No one from the WWF has reached out to me... I can't see why they would unless they were trying to book me.

Would you consider an offer from the WWF to join their roster?

Consider? I'd take any offer right now, whether it's WWF, WCW or ECW if it somehow comes back. Right now I'm taking indie bookings and I have a couple dates lined up. I'm a free agent looking for stability. My choices are limited!

With ECW seemingly falling victim to the wrestling wars, what do you think will happen to WCW - who are currently embroiled in financial turmoil?

I don't know what's going on with WCW, but I seriously hope they can pull their act together. There are some incredible stars on that show and I'd hate to see more talent losing their jobs and valuable television time. Competition is essential in this business - that's why ECW got where it did and attracted the fanbase we have. We were the alternative, we gave wrestling fans a new taste of in-ring action. I can't see the business doing well with just one company holding all the cards.

Finally, are you looking forward to WrestleMania X-Seven?

It's gonna be hard for them to put on a show that can measure up to their main event, but I think it'll be a good time regardless. I'm looking forward to the show.
