WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING IS DONE!

In a shocking turn of events, Eric Bischoff would appear on WCW Monday Nitro last night to confirm what has been rumoured for some time; World Championship Wrestling is coming to an end.

Here are some highlights from the shocking penultimate episode of Nitro:

  • Ric Flair would come to the ring for a contract signing ordered by Eric Bischoff. Surprisingly, Bischoff himself would reappear on WCW television (sporting a fresh new dye - perhaps in mourning?) to make a title unification match between Booker T (WCW United States Heavyweight Champion) and Scott Steiner (WCW World Heavyweight Champion). It was here that Bischoff broke the dreaded news of WCW's impending demise. Next week, at Panama City Beach, Nitro will air for the last time.

  • With tag partner Mike Awesome missing the show due to injuries - and with the news that all other titles are being deactivated (including their WCW World Tag Team Championships) - Lance Storm issued an open challenge for next week's show. He said that WCW deserved a 'serious' send-off and a true exhibition of wrestling ability before the curtain falls on the company.

  • Billy Kidman and Rey Mysterio, along with Torrie Wilson, appeared in front of the crowd to give a heartfelt thank you to the Nitro fans for their support over the years. Rey donned his classic lucha mask and promised that they will continue to set the standard in professional wrestling. All of a sudden, Kevin Nash appeared alongside Diamond Dallas Page, still suffering from his battle at the Greed pay-per-view. Page, describing himself as a WCW veteran, challenged the Filthy Animals to a tag-team match on next week's show, bringing the old school and the new school together in the ring for one last round. The Animals accepted and the crowd loved it.

It hardly feels real to be covering WCW's demise, but this really is the end of the road for the company. With the Fusient Media deal falling through, it is rumoured that the troubled company has been bought by none other than its competition - the World Wrestling Federation. Watch this space!
